Come And Eat

Sermon Series Description

Come and Eat is a series about a Jesus who refuses to be your caterer. In John 6, Jesus feeds five thousand people with five loaves and two fish, walks across a stormy sea in the dark, and then loses most of his following in a single sermon. The crowd loves the bread. They want more of it. They will chase him across a lake to get it. But when Jesus tells them that he himself is the bread — that they must eat his flesh and drink his blood to have life — the enthusiasm disappears. Over four weeks, we will watch Jesus reenact the exodus story at Passover, reveal himself as the true manna from heaven, say the hardest thing he has said yet in John's Gospel, and thin his own crowd down to twelve. The question John 6 forces is not whether Jesus can provide for you. He obviously can. The question is whether you will stay when he stops being what you expected and starts being who he actually is.

Jesus is the true Bread from heaven who gives his flesh for the life of the world — and true disciples remain with him not because his words are easy but because his words are life.
